This New Horror Film Is Now Streaming, and It Has the Power to Test Your Partnership.

We present a dare for long-term couples who appreciate scary movies: Sit down with your significant other and view Together. This independent film success of 2025 recently had its online premiere on Hulu. At first glance, it may seem like conventional body horror, but inside Together resides a profound meditation about the ways we decide to love each other.

An Introductory Film Investigating Partnership Complexities

Together is the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It stars the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, partners that have remained a couple for a decade. United in marriage in actuality in 2017, Franco and Brie bring a special spark to their roles, masterfully depicting both the strengths and weaknesses of a enduring union.

The plot starts when Tim and Millie transition from the metropolis to the rural area for professional reasons. A somewhat stereotypical plot device, admittedly, but that’s primarily where the conventions end. Together transforms into as much a examination of mental states of the partnership as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While hiking near their country house, a tempest descends, and Millie and Tim fall into an underground cave. After being trapped overnight there and eventually escaping, a strange force starts to affect the pair. This force creates a supernatural closeness between them that goes far beyond simple connection.

The complete narrative is a methodically building fright fest, weaving in moments of hallucinatory nightmares, gross (but not excessively graphic) physical transformations, and authentically humorous dialogue (sometimes in the middle of something disturbing). The director weaves these elements together neatly and presents them in a consistently growing atmosphere of fear.

Layered Performances

A great deal of Together is exclusively the performances of its stars, and they skillfully illustrate countless layers to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie's sense of self and sense of connection is deteriorating due to a distance. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his unwillingness to pursue anything but his floundering music career gradually emerges.

In contrast, Tim's character feels trapped and separated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve moved to the country and removed from his network of friends. He fears the concept of completely losing his individual identity in another person. This fear is further exacerbated by the reality he does not operate a vehicle and is dependent on Millie for transportation.

The director's cleverest decision in Together avoids making one partner or the other the clear bad guy.

Tim and Millie confront the kind of problems that arise in most partnerships after ten years. Fundamentally, they have affection for each other. They still laugh together, provide solace, and are vulnerable at times. But below this facade, there’s an unavoidable feeling of questioning about their bond.

Thematic Depth

While the paranormal elements in Together represent these concerns of excessive reliance and giving oneself over to another person, the symbolism does not come across as overly obvious or pretentious. Instead, these visceral horror elements offer a ideal counterpart to the relationship narrative. Both the frights and the fights enhance each other symbiotically.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s conclusion, which is best experienced firsthand, has created disagreement on the movie's final takeaway about enmeshed dynamics. It has been said that those not in relationships have interpreted the film as a strong argument for staying single. Conversely, some couples who were in conflict found that the film actually helped them make up.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own response could function as a revealing measure of how you perceive partnership. Will the ending sow a sense of discomfort and fear, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you recognize your own traits in either protagonist and scream at your TV, or simply look at your significant other and state, “We could get through that together”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an exploration you can undertake right now.

Together is currently playing on the streaming service Hulu as of this moment.
